About Basotect EcoBalanced
Basotect® EcoBalanced: sustainable acoustic performance with a lower CO₂ footprint
What is Basotect® EcoBalanced?
Basotect® EcoBalanced is the latest generation of melamine foam from BASF, developed for projects where excellent acoustic performance must go hand in hand with a lower environmental impact. Thanks to a certified biomass balance approach and production with 100% green electricity, Basotect® EcoBalanced offers the same technical properties as standard Basotect®, but with up to 50% lower Product Carbon Footprint (PCF).
For architects, design offices, project developers, and sustainable construction projects, Basotect® EcoBalanced represents an immediate solution to reduce the ecological impact of acoustic systems without compromising on performance, processing, or lifespan.
How is Basotect® EcoBalanced produced?
The unique character of Basotect® EcoBalanced lies in the choice of raw materials at the beginning of the value chain.
BASF replaces part of the fossil raw materials with renewable raw materials sourced from organic waste streams and residual biomass. Through a certified mass balance system, these sustainable raw materials are allocated to specific production volumes. This process is controlled according to internationally recognized certifications such as ISCC PLUS and REDcert².
As a result:
the use of fossil raw materials is reduced;
CO₂ emissions decrease significantly;
product quality remains identical to that of standard Basotect®;
no adjustments are needed in existing production or processing processes.
Technical properties
Basotect® EcoBalanced retains all the properties for which Basotect® is known worldwide:
Excellent sound absorption
The open-cell structure absorbs sound waves very efficiently over a wide frequency range. This makes the material particularly suitable for:
- office environments;
- schools and universities;
- meeting rooms;
- hospitality;
- auditoria;
- public buildings;
- industrial applications.
Lightweight
With an extremely low volumetric mass, the system remains easy to process, transport, and assemble.
High fire safety
Basotect® is known for its excellent fire performance and is often used in projects where strict fire standards apply.
Thermal insulation
In addition to acoustic absorption, the material also contributes to thermal comfort and energy efficiency.
Shape-stable and durable
The material retains its dimensions, performance, and aesthetic appearance for a long time.
Up to 50% lower CO₂ footprint
Sustainable building is increasingly about measurable impact. Basotect® EcoBalanced helps designers and building owners reduce the environmental impact of their projects thanks to a Product Carbon Footprint that is up to 50% lower than that of comparable standard Basotect® qualities.
This makes the material particularly interesting for:
- BREEAM projects;
- LEED projects;
- WELL-certified buildings;
- ESG objectives;
- CO₂ reduction strategies;
- circular and sustainable construction projects.
BASF also provides transparent PCF data so that project teams can accurately document the environmental impact.
